When it comes to snowsports, wearing a helmet is not just a good idea – it’s essential. The excitement of skiing or snowboarding can sometimes overshadow the potential risks, but the reality is that head injuries are all too common in these activities. I always wear a helmet and here is why you should too.

Research from the Boston Children’s Hospital has shown that a properly fitting helmet can significantly reduce the risk of head injuries by as much as 60 percent. This means that wearing a helmet isn’t just about following the rules – it’s about taking a proactive step to protect yourself and stay safe on the slopes.

Your most important piece of gear: A Helmet

One of the key reasons why wearing a helmet is so important is that it can mitigate the impact of falls and collisions. Accidents can happen to anyone, whether you’re a beginner finding your feet or an experienced rider pushing the limits. A high-quality helmet, such as the Bern Hendrix MIPS Helmet, is designed to absorb and distribute the force of an impact, reducing the severity of potential head injuries. This level of protection is invaluable, especially when you consider that a significant number of head injuries occur on mild to moderate slopes and are more prevalent among those who are still building their skills.

About the Bern MIPS Hendrix Helmet

The Bern Hendrix MIPS Helmet offers a blend of safety and style. The integrated MIPS technology provides an extra layer of protection against rotational forces, while the customizable fit and low-profile design ensure both comfort and a sleek look. This means that you can stay safe without sacrificing style or comfort.

Never heard of RibTech? Not to bore you with details, but the EPS foam liner inside the helmet has ribs and grooves engineered into it which reduce the weight and improve the airflow through the helmet.

In addition to the safety benefits, wearing a helmet can enhance your overall mountain experience. Helmets help to keep sun, wind, and snow off of your head, improving visibility and allowing you to stay focused on your ride. They also provide an extra layer of warmth, especially on those chilly days when you’re determined to make the most of every run. Plus, Bern Helmets offers headphone chip integration and their very own devices, making it easy to enjoy your music safely.

Why I love this helmet

I’ve tried several different types and styles of helmets before finally falling in love with this particular one. Other brands tend to have shorter forehead coverage, making you look silly when wearing sunglasses or smaller goggles (hello, gaper). The Hendrix style’s brim looks better and feels more protective.

I also love the ear flaps not being SO fluffy. I have space for a neck gaiter, and my ears don’t feel so compressed all day. Their tech, Compass Fit, allows for the best-fit customization I’ve found, and the liner is all comfort with no itch.

Wearing a helmet while participating in snowsports is a no-brainer. Not only does it significantly reduce the risk of head injuries, but it also enhances your comfort and style on the mountain. The Bern Hendrix MIPS Helmet is a prime example of how safety and fashion can go hand in hand, offering the best protection without compromising looks or fit.

So, before you hit the slopes, gear up with a quality helmet – it’s the smart choice for a safer and more enjoyable snowsports experience.
